Exchange Bank has a long and successful history of continuous operation. We were the first bank in territorial Kansas, opening our doors in 1857. Just three local families: Hetheringtons, Waggeners, and Adairs have owned the bank, which creates a strong continuous line of dedicated service to our local and military customers.
The history of Exchange combines innovation with stability. We stayed in operation during the Civil War, the panic of 1893 (when many banks didn’t), made it through the Great Depression, river floods, and tough agricultural times.
John Adair, Sr., purchased a controlling interest in the bank in 1953; and Paul H. Adair, taking over his father’s role, is now Chairman of the Board. Today, as in 1857, Exchange National Bank offers friendly and convenient services while keeping current with the up-to-date technology and products our customers require.
Exchange Bank employees have a reputation for being among the best volunteers in town. Atchison’s Amelia Earhart Festival, American Cancer Relay for Life, area civic boards, youth groups, and schools; you will find us there helping in any way we can.
We’re proud to be a bank with a history, a strong tradition of family, and a commitment to our community and customers!
